Perspective

As we welcome this new year, our minds are filled with resolutions for the year ahead. How often do we really seriously think about our goals in life? Are those goals realistic? Do we have concrete plans? Or are we just winging it. Now let me get a little philosophical about a life perspective, about which we should think. When you ask yourself, "what is my purpose in life," think about what you want to contribute to life, rather than what you expect in life. Contributing to society is much more meaningful and rewarding than just obtaining possessions in life. It is important that you are realistic about your goals. Set realistic attainable goals, which are rewarding and meaningful to you. As we think about our overall purpose and goals in life, we sometimes tend to doubt ourselves. We all experience doubt sometimes, and doubt can lead to you making a mistake or taking on an opportunity for success. Nonetheless each and every one of us can do amazing things in life. It is important not to doubt yourself regardless of how challenging life gets. The moment you begin to doubt yourself, you will fail to accomplish anything in life. To be realistic, is to understand that change can happen at any time. Understanding our individual abilities and assets, allow us to create a strong foundation for us to succeed and triumph in the trials of life. Our self-efficacy and individual self-worth is worthy of our time, energy, and effort. The imperfect society we live in, should not limit our potential to overcome any obstacle and challenge that we may cross paths with.

"The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others."

                                                                             - Mahatma Gandhi

"Try not to become a person of success, but rather try to become a person of value."

                                                                             - Albert Einstein

Do we live in a perfect world? No, we don't. Do we have a perfect life?  Sadly, we don't and if you think you are living a perfect life, the reality is you don't. If you think you are healthy and will never be sick, you are mistaken. If you think material things will bring you happiness, then you are deluded.  Stop living life under a pseudo belief system filled with what if's, maybe I should or it will not happen to me. Because it will no doubt happen when you least expect it. Our world seems superficial, and seems we are caught up in this reality tv world that tends to entrap us. We all have something to offer, and I sincerely believe that regardless of our individual educational, professional pursuits, and including wealth or lack of wealth, we all can truly make a difference in our society no matter where in this world we may live. Regardless of what career path or education you undertake, make sure you work hard, with a sheer dedication and the faith to believe in yourself. You can accomplish anything, when you set your mind and focus on it. Keep in mind it is very important to choose your friends wisely, don't let anyone discourage you, unless it is for the right reasons, like when it pertains to your well-being and safety. Make sure you are a positive influence on them, and them on you. If you have goals and dreams, pursue them, don't ever underestimate yourself.  Your possibilities are endless, just don't wait for the opportunity to come to you, get out there. Make it happen for yourself and you will have no regrets.  If you make mistakes, or face disappointments, that's ok, learn from it and keep moving forward. Try making a difference in a truly meaningful way, because the rewards are some of the greatest lessons in life.
